Professional help

doctorIf you are really struggling with your confidence levels or you feel that you're simply no longer coping, it may be a good idea to seek professional advice or help.  Unfortunately it is quite often the case that a poor sense of self-worth may actually stem from deeper or more complex problems – you may be suffering from depression, or be experiencing a psychological period of stress.  By talking to an expert – a doctor, psychologist, counsellor or motivational advisor – you may be able to establish what the underlying problem is and make moves to correct it.

In most cases, having a conversation with your local GP will be all you need to do to start making the necessary changes in your life.  Your GP will be able to recommend methods or techniques to decrease stress and negativity in your life (such as mediation, therapeutic massage or aromatherapy), will be able to diagnose and treat any medical conditions or problems which are causing your poor self esteem (such as anxiety, depression, sleep apnoea or weight management issues), and will be able to refer you to specialist counsellors or psychologists if it is deemed necessary.  They may also be able to recommend helpful literature, programs or courses which can help set you back on the road to self-acceptance.

If you do not want to visit a doctor or specialist and would prefer to work through your confidence issues yourself, it is advisable that you invest in some of the literature on the subject – a quick visit to your local book-store will provide you with a huge number of books and audio recordings on the general topic of happiness and self-confidence.
